Safe & legal
Installing an app takes seconds, which is why the legal check ought to come before the download and not after. This section sets out what that check consists of.
Secure apps, trusted sites and legal betting are covered, together with “betting sites not on GAMSTOP” and similar phrases. Those describe operators outside the Great Britain licence and are not a benefit.
Licensed operators must verify identity (name, address, date of birth) ahead of a first bet, take part in GAMSTOP and answer to the Commission. Section 33 of the Gambling Act 2005 makes unlicensed supply of betting to Great Britain an offence for the operator. For the customer none has been identified, yet protection disappears.
