Horse racing & greyhounds

Race-day betting from a phone puts odds changes, non-runners and each-way terms on one screen.

Each-way is a pair of bets, win and place, hence a doubled outlay; the place part is quoted from the market because race and operator both change it. Starting price, ante-post and Rule 4 deductions after a withdrawal explain why a settled return may differ from the price tapped at the time.

Taxation has a carve-out for the sport. From 1 April 2027 the remote betting rate is set at 25%, while remote bets on UK horse racing, like pool betting, keep a 15% rate. Behind the lower rate sits the Horserace Betting Levy: 10% of what an operator earns on GB horseracing bets beyond a £500,000 exempt amount.
