About us – UK betting

Apps and payments are the lens here: how a bet gets placed from a phone, how money reaches the account and what comes back out. Bets are not taken, tips are not sold and returns are not promised, since certain winners do not exist.

Checking the licence behind an app

Any app serving customers in Great Britain rests on an operator holding a Gambling Commission licence, and the public register of the Commission is the check to use. Licensed operators trade on .com addresses, so an address is no evidence, and neither is a high rating in an app store. Curaçao, Maltese and Gibraltar licences do not replace the Great Britain licence. An operator without one is described as being without a Great Britain licence, and the effects are stated without drama: no GAMSTOP, no complaints route through the Commission, less protection overall. Northern Ireland has separate law and falls outside the Gambling Act 2005.

Where facts come from

Statements about apps, deposit methods and promotions draw on the operators’ terms, help pages and footers. Statements about law draw on statutes and on Gambling Commission and other official publications. Features change with each release, so a figure is given with its date and place. Where trustworthy evidence ends, the text says so and does not guess a number.

Readers

Content is aimed at adults in Great Britain, where betting starts at 18, and it is not legal or tax advice. When betting takes more time or money than was intended, GamCare, GambleAware and GAMSTOP are there to help.
